Enrollment issues aside, I dabbled with two film ideas because I couldn't choose what would work better as a school film. I ended up going with my ladybug story, but they both have similar, formulaic structures.<br />
<br />
This year in our mentor groups, we had several Milestone deadlines to meet. It's all fairly straightforward and wasn't too difficult to catch up on. A few...<br />

<hr /><b>Chip's Morning</b><br />
This one was based off of a storyboard I had back in 2nd year. I reworked the boards and added a few gag elements that had been suggested to me before, but I'm not too fond of what I tried and it sort of affects the original 'wind' element I had. If I had thought further on this, I might've developed something more sensible.<br />
Personally this one (while still a preschool/children's story style) would have been more enjoyable for me animation-wise, unlike my ladybug.<br />

We have to move onto layouts and animating now. avodkabottlehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11098301272034923593noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5269538413465314730.post-52031556398462820422013-12-16T12:12:00.002-05:002013-12-16T12:15:47.516-05:00Completed Action AnalysisFinally composited and finished! Here's a video of Mr. Fluffy jumping into a pond. Working on this, watching him jump repeatedly... again and again...<br />
<embed allowfullscreen="true" allownetworking="all" flashvars="file=http%3A%2F%2Fvidmg.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fv470%2Favodkabottle%2Fschool%2Fanitachow_AAAfinal.mp4" height="253" src="http://static.photobucket.com/player.swf" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="450" wmode="transparent"></embed><br />

Character cleanup (ToonBoom)<br />
<a href="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/school/anitachow-A-charactercleanuprevised.png"><img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/school/anitachow-A-charactercleanuprevised.png" width="400" /></a><br />
<br />
Layout field guides<br />
<a href="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/AAAlayout-painting-FG.png"><img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/AAAlayout-painting-FG.png" width="400" /></a><br />
<br />
Painted Layout (paint tool sai) was going for winnie the pooh-esque light atmosphere.<br />
<a href="http://fc01.deviantart.net/fs71/f/2013/350/c/0/aaalayout_painting_by_avodkabottle-d6y64cr.png"><img src="http://fc01.deviantart.net/fs71/f/2013/350/c/0/aaalayout_painting_by_avodkabottle-d6y64cr.png" width="450" /></a><br />
<br />
I wish I didn't crop the layout so tight... the overlays and multiplane pan wasn't really working after I did the layout testing. I might try and finish the boy's animation or use his base as practice for a rig in toonboom. It was a big learning experience and though I started out with an aversion to the program, I think I've learned enough to sort of get the gist of a bit of it. :)avodkabottlehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11098301272034923593noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5269538413465314730.post-79109929618649393342013-12-04T21:59:00.004-05:002013-12-04T21:59:56.883-05:00Creature CreationPosts for my school blog too! Thought more of fairy tales for this assignment, so I looked at work like John Bauer, Helen Stratton, ... old timey- illustrated books. I remember how immersed I'd get in those amazing printed ink illustrations; this was a lot of fun even if I didn't capture that.<br />
<br />
The life drawings I did and used as reference/inspiration <br />
<a href="http://fc03.deviantart.net/fs70/f/2013/338/9/7/lifedraw_creatureposew_by_avodkabottle-d6wr7lk.png"><img src="http://fc03.deviantart.net/fs70/f/2013/338/9/7/lifedraw_creatureposew_by_avodkabottle-d6wr7lk.png" width="400" /></a><br />
<br />
Transformation - The sequential part. I did this pretty rushed... plenty of better ways to go about it, and more clearly!<br />
<a href="http://fc00.deviantart.net/fs70/f/2013/338/e/c/lifedrawing_creaturecreationstorys_by_avodkabottle-d6wr6ua.png"><img src="http://fc00.deviantart.net/fs70/f/2013/338/e/c/lifedrawing_creaturecreationstorys_by_avodkabottle-d6wr6ua.png" width="400" /></a><br />

I left out my character drawings and member caricatures from the pitch package from my presentation because it felt redundant... I should've included them in the end for marks, though.<br />
<br />
Our group film also has its own blogspot (think it's okay to share): <a href="http://redalertshortfilm.blogspot.ca/">http://redalertshortfilm.blogspot.ca</a><br />

<span style="font-size: x-small;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: x-small;">The inspirations I used...</span><br />
<span style="font-size: x-small;"><a href="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/school/anitachow-A2-01research.jpg"><img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/school/anitachow-A2-01research.jpg" width="400" /></a></span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: x-small;">Panty and Stocking for the backgrounds, colours, line quality...</span><br />
<span style="font-size: x-small;"><a href="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/school/anitachow-A2-02research.jpg"><img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/school/anitachow-A2-02research.jpg" width="400" /></a></span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: x-small;">Same for Kim Possible and Danny Phantom (textured backgrounds, fluid animation)</span><br />
<span style="font-size: x-small;"><a href="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/school/anitachow-A2-03research.jpg"><img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/school/anitachow-A2-03research.jpg
" width="400" /></a></span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: x-small;">Background inspiration (grainy line quality, flattened but believable perspective, gradiented lights of Ken Dart & Steven Sugar- introduced to us by one of our awesome production managers <a href="http://rebeccadegirolamo.blogspot.ca/" target="_blank">Rebecca!</a> )</span><br />
<span style="font-size: x-small;"><a href="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/school/anitachow-A2-04research.jpg"><img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/school/anitachow-A2-04research.jpg" width="400" /></a></span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: x-small;">These had a lot less to do with the overall 80-90's feel of the room and characters we were going for, but these were some of the references for my older designs of the protagonist after using the base from <a href="http://juliencee.tumblr.com/" target="_blank">Julien</a>. (Daft Punk, motorcycles, astronauts...)</span><br />
<span style="font-size: x-small;"><a href="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/school/anitachow-A2-05research.jpg"><img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/school/anitachow-A2-05research.jpg" width="400" /></a></span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: x-small;">Comic book/superheroes and anime explosions for the special effects! (Black Canary, Danny Phantom, Banshee, gurren lagann, kill la kill... etc.)</span><br />
<span style="font-size: x-small;"><a href="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/school/anitachow-A2-06research.jpg"><img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/school/anitachow-A2-06research.jpg" width="400" /></a></span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: x-small;">Didn't put up all the references to present that I used since my art output is already significantly less...</span><br />
<span style="font-size: x-small;">Scene mockup - took inspiration from PSG and Kevin Dart/Steven Sugar for coloured lines, gradients.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: x-small;"><a href="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/school/anitachow-A2-07-art.jpg"><img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/school/anitachow-A2-07-art.jpg" width="400" /></a></span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: x-small;">Grainy lines, horror film Nightbear</span><br />
<span style="font-size: x-small;"><br /></span>

<br />
<span style="font-size: x-small;">Pixel I did of Red Alert, abandoned poster prompt and threw on colours on an in-class sketch.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: x-small;"><a href="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/school/anitachow-A2-09-art.jpg"><img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/school/anitachow-A2-09-art.jpg" width="400" /></a></span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: x-small;">The really old stuff!</span><br />
<span style="font-size: x-small;"><a href="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/school/anitachow-A2-10-char.jpg"><img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/school/anitachow-A2-10-char.jpg" width="400" /></a></span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: x-small;">Originally I had more scrappy red alerts and also the idea that nightbear could be super adorable (babylike proportions with small face, big forehead, innocent colours) and still be creepy.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: x-small;"><a href="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/school/anitachow-A2-11-char.jpg"><img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/school/anitachow-A2-11-char.jpg" width="400" /></a></span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: x-small;">Old gunky props for our pitch package using lineless/coloured lines, and small takes at the new grainy line style at bottom left. I kept forgetting about the time period so I drew most of these as the usual modern day trinkets. They're pretty boring and now unnecessary as a result!</span><br />
<a href="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/school/anitachow-A2-12-prop.jpg"><span style="font-size: x-small;"><img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/school/anitachow-A2-12-prop.jpg

<span style="font-size: x-small;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: x-small;">I signed up for special effects for our design pack, so I was trying my hand at these really quickly... yikes! This is going to take a lot of learning...</span><br />
<span style="font-size: x-small;"><img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/school/sfxtest1.gif" width="200" /><img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/school/sfxtest2.gif" width="200" /></span><br />

<span style="font-size: x-small;">caricatures of our awesome group members to finish off this post. :) Half of them the others drew and I toned them to be unified.</span><br />

<br />
I used mostly ink and marker this time for more confidence in strokes, rather than col-erase or pencil. I also tried brush pen at some points. We were to try and caricature the animals for our assignment, but mine don't carry through that well. Gotta practice!<br />

Chose my action as a 'jump and grab' on the dog's part; Initially it was to be a 'pitch' by the boy, but I haven't really played around with quadrupeds, so...<br />
<br />
Workbook (storyboard to roughing out placements/layout)<br />
<a href="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/school/anitachow_AAAworkbook.jpg"><img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/school/anitachow_AAAworkbook.jpg" width="500" /></a><br />

<a href="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/school/06-artdirection.png"><img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/school/06-artdirection.png" width="500" /></a><br />
<a href="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/school/07-propsfx.png"><img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/school/07-propsfx.png" width="500" /></a><br />
<br />
Rough layout. Blew up the workbook and just detailed the levels. Drew at 1920x1080 instead of 1280x720, oops. <br />
<a href="http://fc03.deviantart.net/fs70/f/2013/311/d/3/aaaroughlayout3_by_avodkabottle-d6tepyz.jpg"><img src="http://fc03.deviantart.net/fs70/f/2013/311/d/3/aaaroughlayout3_by_avodkabottle-d6tepyz.jpg" width="500" /></a><br />
<br />
Rough animation! Did the walk cycle first after watching puppy videos (best homework).<br />
Also was having technical issues, so I just drew the frames out in sai and exported them singly.<br />
<img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/school/rufftestrun.gif?t=1383869564" /><br />
<br />
<embed allowfullscreen="true" allownetworking="all" flashvars="file=http%3A%2F%2Fvidmg.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fv470%2Favodkabottle%2Fschool%2Fanitachow-AAAruffanimtest.mp4" height="241" src="http://static.photobucket.com/player.swf" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="500" wmode="transparent"></embed><br />
Class critique today said that the hang time in the air was too floaty and long- plus it pops forward out of the arc instead of dropping after reaching the apex of the jump (cue dog-hunting jokes,). DQ also commented the animation in all the parts have very even timing so everything is kind of 'soft', but taking out inbetweens shouldn't be too difficult! Still have to animate the stick through the air (whole lot of other issues concerning pace compared to the dog's) and the water... and kid ruffs...<br />
And make notes on the camera move, where the layout and animation should be (I drew it all weirdly so there's some funny levels shifting to do). Super simple concepts but somewhat tedious in execution as always.avodkabottlehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11098301272034923593noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5269538413465314730.post-61533075418797044442013-10-14T19:59:00.002-04:002013-10-14T19:59:52.982-04:00Heroes and Villains!Lining and celshade actually took double the time instead of painting. Regardless, this was a fun assignment.<br />
<span style="font-size: x-small;">This first character is my <a href="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/OC%20Bishops%20refs/jan2011-refdjn.jpg" target="_blank">lady knight Djenn</a>. Her armour is mostly based off of Gothic plate, and I modified its practicality slightly for this picture. There's so many more elements I wanted to fix/add but I'll settle with painting a new version... it was also my first time seeing my work as a single (questionable quality) print, other than in artbooks! Exciting.</span><br />

<span style="font-size: x-small;">disco dancing over extreme, oops</span><br />

<br />
The life drawing poses they were based off of. I mixed some and took a lot of liberties with others.<br />

Worked in Maya.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://fc06.deviantart.net/fs70/f/2013/286/d/7/3dmodels2ndyear_by_avodkabottle-d6q9ynm.png"><img src="http://fc06.deviantart.net/fs70/f/2013/286/d/7/3dmodels2ndyear_by_avodkabottle-d6q9ynm.png" width="400" /></a><br />
The last one (my terribad attempt at modeling from a character sheet I did in first year) the texture was painted in Photoshop on the... skin thing. I don't recall anything at all...<br />
<br />
<a href="http://fc00.deviantart.net/fs71/f/2013/286/e/5/2ndyeardigitools_modelingtexture_by_avodkabottle-d6q9za0.png"><img src="http://fc00.deviantart.net/fs71/f/2013/286/e/5/2ndyeardigitools_modelingtexture_by_avodkabottle-d6q9za0.png" width="400" /></a><br />
<br />
And we modeled our own hands. Mine is pretty terrifying... especially with how I couldn't be bothered to model the knuckles and palm properly. LOL<br />
<a href="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/school/digitools-handmodel.png"><img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/school/digitools-handmodel.png" width="400" /></a><br />
<a href="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/school/IMG_3470.jpg"><img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/school/IMG_3470.jpg" width="150" /></a><a href="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/school/IMG_3471.jpg"><img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/school/IMG_3471.jpg" width="150" /></a><br />
<br />
Our last project was a 3D layout pan with a camera. I drew the simple pic in sai and imported the layers into Maya. It's pretty much like using After Effects for the same thing, except in actual 3D. I did a weird thing with the camera at the end . nts that move is awkward.<br />
<embed allowfullscreen="true" allownetworking="all" flashvars="file=http%3A%2F%2Fvidmg.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fv470%2Favodkabottle%2Fschool%2Fanitachow_3DLayout.mp4" height="361" src="http://static.photobucket.com/player.swf" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="600" wmode="transparent"></embed><br />

<br />
That wraps up my second year posts! Eager to get my third year work so far up in smaller chunks.avodkabottlehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11098301272034923593noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5269538413465314730.post-7119469119449647942013-10-13T02:10:00.002-04:002013-10-13T02:11:16.668-04:00Second Year Group and TV boardsFor <b>Storyboard</b> class last term, we were put into groups to board out sequences to a song and make a leica reel. We learned how to hook up to others' boards, time the shots to music (bar sheets) and composite our own sections to be put together with the others'.<br />
<br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
<br />
Cuddles McGish was the song this year... all of us did rough character designs to be picked from after discussing the story we'd create inspired by the song. I was personally leaning more towards the mafia cats, but a club scene was amusing, too.<br />
<a href="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/Chow_Anita_Character01.jpg"><img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/Chow_Anita_Character01.jpg" width="400" /></a><br />
Beat boards for our assigned parts as well.<br />
<a href="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/Chow_Anita_Beat01.jpg"><img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/Chow_Anita_Beat01.jpg" width="400" /></a><br />
After finalizing character designs, we had several rough passes of our boards and story. My section was largely unchanged because it was pretty simple!<br />
<a href="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/Chow_Anita_boards01.jpg"><img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/Chow_Anita_boards01.jpg" width="400" /></a><br />
<a href="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/Chow_Anita_boards02.jpg"><img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/Chow_Anita_boards02.jpg" width="400" /></a><br />

<a href="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/Chow_Anita_boards04.jpg"><img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/Chow_Anita_boards04.jpg" width="400" /></a><br />
<a href="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/Chow_Anita_boards05.jpg"><img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/Chow_Anita_boards05.jpg" width="400" /></a><br />
<br />
I'll edit this post with the finished leica later when I have the file...<br />
<br />
<b>Painting</b><br />
The second term, we worked with Photoshop... unfortunately, I missed too many classes to retain much (and I regret it lots). Most of the stuff was working with pre-drawn things and either lining them or adding colours. It was less of learning how to paint and more of learning the workflow/hierarchy/structuring of layers, etc.<br />
<img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/anitachow-D-flashlining-inclass.jpg" width="400" /><br />
<br />
<a href="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/anitachow-D-FIRST_INCLASS.png"><img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/anitachow-D-FIRST_INCLASS.png" width="400" /></a><br />
<a href="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/anitachow-D-tonal1.jpg"><img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/anitachow-D-tonal1.jpg" width="150" /></a><a href="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/anitachow-D-tonal2.jpg"><img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/anitachow-D-tonal2.jpg" width="150" /></a> <a href="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/anitachow-D-colour.jpg"><img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/anitachow-D-colour.jpg" width="150" /></a><br />
<br />
This one we lined and coloured the characters in Flash, and the BG in photoshop using the pen tool!<br />
<a href="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/anitachow-D-kitchen.png"><img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/anitachow-D-kitchen.png" width="400" /></a><br />

<br />
<b>TV boards</b><br />
Back to individual storyboards- we worked on tv-style boards and learned differences between film & tv. This was tied into our <a href="http://aycdraw.blogspot.ca/2013/05/end-of-second-term-charas-anims.html" target="_blank">character design assignment</a> as well... overall it was a bit of a nightmare for me because I screwed up on my research for my first pitch (wooden Victorian style houses =/= London, England, d'oh) and I froze up embarrassingly on my final pitch. Well, the drawing and learning part was still fun.<br />
<a href="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/school/Chow_Anita_Characters.jpg"><img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/school/Chow_Anita_Characters.jpg" width="500" /></a><br />
Beats<br />
<a href="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/school/Chow_Anita_Beats01.jpg"><img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/school/Chow_Anita_Beats01.jpg" width="500" /></a><br />

<br />
TV board painted. Well, if you could... call it... painted.<br />

I figured I should get the rest of my second year work up before I start posting things from third year!<br />
<br />
This was an assignment in Layout class in where we followed a script, researched the setting and stagecoach, made character designs and props, boarded it, and fleshed out layouts. Basically all of our classes' worth of teaching in this one assignment (excluding actual animation); Needless to say, my potato self wasn't able to keep up with the deadlines alongside other classes and I handed in rather shoddy stuff, but it was a learning experience. <br />

Westerns aren't really my preferred genre, but after looking up things I can certainly appreciate the practicality of cowboys and the towns. As a side, I watched the Dollars trilogy (with Clint Eastwood) and I can certainly agree they romanticized gunslinger fights very entertainingly.avodkabottlehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11098301272034923593noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5269538413465314730.post-58237161444724117262013-05-09T07:36:00.001-04:002013-05-09T07:39:15.691-04:00End of second term- charas & anims!Whew, it's been a while since I posted here. Just going to throw up all the projects from the last term in batches again.<br />
<br />
<b>Character Design</b><br />
<i>Anthropomorphism</i><br />
For muzzle design, learning about how in animation, the mouth is often pulled back up to create a cheek and relation to the eye for more expressive faces, contrary to the lack of such in most real life muzzled creatures.<br />
For beak design, learning to maintain the rigidity of the beak, yet also being able to pull back for a pseudo-cheek or show teeth only as emphasis on particular moments.<br />
<a href="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/school/anitachow-D-anthrochara.jpg"><img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/school/anitachow-D-anthrochara.jpg" width="400" /></a><br />
Also was suggested to show eye white for the owl for more emotive expressions/ relation.<br />
<br />
<i>Theme Design</i><br />
I chose Victorian setting for my characters. I ran into some trouble when it came to the storyboard section using them, but it was a lesson well-learned!<br />
rough concepts (two per title)<br />
<a href="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/school/charadesign-charasconcept.jpg"><img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/school/charadesign-charasconcept.jpg" width="400" /></a><br />
Final concepts and layout drawing! I'm not sure if anyone recognized it, but for the layout setting I meant to base the composition off of '<a href="http://www.artrenewal.org/artwork/988/1988/9863/a_special_pleader-large.jpg" target="_blank">A Special Pleader</a>' by Charles Burton Barber.<br />
<a href="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/school/charadesign-finalcompil.jpg"><img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/school/charadesign-finalcompil.jpg" width="400" /></a><br />
Can still see how off my grid lines are, oops.<br />
<br />
<i>Performance</i><br />
Drawing a character in sequence, more like animation keyframes than storyboard.<br />
<a href="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/school/chardesign-performance.png"><img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/school/chardesign-performance.png" width="400" /></a><br />
<br />
<br />
<b>Animation</b><br />
Lip-syncing<br />
Hello star shine!<br />
<embed allowfullscreen="true" allownetworking="all" flashvars="file=http:%2F%2Fvidmg.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fv470%2Favodkabottle%2Fschool%2Fanitachow-D-lipsynchello.mp4" height="361" src="http://static.photobucket.com/player.swf" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="600" wmode="transparent"></embed><br />
<br />
Full body acting, concerning visual movement accents on certain audio parts<br />
Audio clip from Monty Python and the Holy Grail.<br />
<embed allowfullscreen="true" allownetworking="all" flashvars="file=http:%2F%2Fvidmg.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fv470%2Favodkabottle%2Fschool%2Fanitachow-D-humansynch.mp4" height="361" src="http://static.photobucket.com/player.swf" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="600" wmode="transparent"></embed><br />
<br />
Muzzle sync. The professor helped me lots on the cutting (on the action), where the cat turns around. He pointed out to keep the character within the same 'area' of the screen in both shots around the cut, so their placement is not as disrupting to the eye.<br />
Audio clip from The Man in the Iron Mask. <br />
<embed allowfullscreen="true" allownetworking="all" flashvars="file=http:%2F%2Fvidmg.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fv470%2Favodkabottle%2Fschool%2Fanitachow-D-muzzlesynch.mp4" height="361" src="http://static.photobucket.com/player.swf" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="600" wmode="transparent"></embed><br />
<br />
Last animation of the school year was the beak sync! I wanted to do more on this, but time (and paper) was running out. I've yet to try digital animation to this point, more out of aversion to the line quality, so I hope I'll be able to during the summer.<br />
Audio clip from Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory<br />
<embed allowfullscreen="true" allownetworking="all" flashvars="file=http%3A%2F%2Fvidmg.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fv470%2Favodkabottle%2Fschool%2Fanitachow-D-beaksync.mp4" height="361" src="http://static.photobucket.com/player.swf" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="600" wmode="transparent"></embed> <br />

Next posts for digitools, painting, layout and storyboard... avodkabottlehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11098301272034923593noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5269538413465314730.post-67739166070002627902013-01-03T11:27:00.000-05:002013-01-03T11:27:49.881-05:00Technical weakspots...Painting and layout both are classes I enjoy greatly, despite obvious lacking ability, because much of it deals with learning more technical aspects and the necessity to draw EVERYTHING well.<br />
<br />
<b>Painting</b><br />
Interior. One can see how my interiors and perspective drawings leave much to be desired. I had literally left this assignment to the last day before deadline. :(<br />
<br />
<a href="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/school/anitachow-D-interiortonals_zps0b671bd4.jpg"><img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/school/anitachow-D-interiortonals_zps0b671bd4.jpg" width="400" /></a><br />
<br />
<a href="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/school/anitachow-D-interiorcolourkey_zps58b2a94c.jpg"><img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/school/anitachow-D-interiorcolourkey_zps58b2a94c.jpg" width="400" /></a><br />
<br />
Airbrush! We were allowed to play around with one. It was much harder to control than I expected!<br />
<a href="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/school/anitachow-D-airbrush_zpsc48d5b4e.jpg"><img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/school/anitachow-D-airbrush_zpsc48d5b4e.jpg" width="400" /></a><br />
<br />
Storyboard colour keys. I had intended for the majority to have a transparent look and the ending to be opaque, but I've lost any semblance of control I ever had over gouache...<br />
<a href="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/school/anitachow-D-storyboard_zpsc65df17b.jpg"><img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/school/anitachow-D-storyboard_zpsc65df17b.jpg" width="400" /></a><br />
Final layout painting, based on one of our previous castle drawings. I am just so confused about how to make focal points and colours/tones work.<br />
<a href="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/school/anitachow-D-layoutpainting_zps4ef90ddc.jpg"><img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/school/anitachow-D-layoutpainting_zps4ef90ddc.jpg" width="400" /></a><br />
<br />
<b>Layout</b><br />

Tiny sketchbook practices of what we were learning in class...<br />

<br />
Final assignment; a small interior and a grand interior, one taken to three further shots (establishing, two-shot, close up). I chose the small interior to develop.<br />

<b>Storyboard</b><br />
An original story for the final project of the semester.<br />
Our class chose the prompt,<i> "How Did I Get Here?" </i><br />
We went through with the beat boards, to the storyboards, to Leica.<br />
<br />
There are multiple passes/WIP sessions before the pitches. I chose not to incorporate all of the suggested changes even if they may have added more amusement to the story, mostly in the interest of time. In the end, suggestions are are only one way amongst many possibilities to better the boards.<br />

These boards were used to make our first Leica reels/animatics. We chose an instrumental music track ('scratch track') to time our boards to- setting the pacing of the film, and sfx. We made corrections to the initial storyboards or added some to better the flow, in the leica.<br />

Never got around to making the second pre-reading week post so just posting everything in batches.<br />
<br />
<b>Character Design</b><br />
Weight lift & toss character<br />
<a href="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/school/chardesin2.png"><img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/school/chardesin2.png" width="400" /></a><br />
<br />
Contrasting design characters, for walk & run<br />
<a href="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/school/chardesign-contrastcharas2.png"><img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/school/chardesign-contrastcharas2.png" width="400" /></a><br />
<br />
Expressions, using characters from caricatures<br />
<a href="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/school/chardesign-expressions_zpsf582929a.png"><img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/school/chardesign-expressions_zpsf582929a.png" width="400" /></a><br />
<br />
Caricatures<br />
<a href="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/school/charcaricatures_zps0c0b1376.png"><img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/school/charcaricatures_zps0c0b1376.png" width="400" /></a><br />
<br />
<b>Animation</b><br />
Wave-boat-sack: our first assignment that is more of a review of concepts; squash&stretch, s&c curves, hang time, overlapping motion, consistency/proportion/perspective... etc. We learned a bit of timing (when the boat is tossed from the water- and not look like it's jumping out), and simple effects (water adhering to boat, splash, surface detail). <br />
<p><object height="300" width="400"> <param value="http://fc04.deviantart.net/fs71/f/2012/349/c/1/anitachow_groupd_waveboatsack_by_avodkabottle-d5o59lb.swf" name="movie"/><embed width="150" src="http://fc04.deviantart.net/fs71/f/2012/349/c/1/anitachow_groupd_waveboatsack_by_avodkabottle-d5o59lb.swf" height="340"> </embed> </object> <p>Weight-lift-toss: Unconscious expression changes, planting of feet, hand grips, making things appear heavy & subsequent tightly-spaced drawings, anticipation, equal effort to lift translates to the throw. We learned in anticipation, the body will naturally move the opposite direction first from the intent, before engaging. With the heavy lift, the hips lead the body and the arms with the weight carry over last. I didn't have enough drawings for the throw or the action before it. I just traced the box over and over because I was running out of time, hence its jarring movement.
<p><embed allowfullscreen="true" allownetworking="all" flashvars="file=http%3A%2F%2Fvidmg.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fv470%2Favodkabottle%2Fschool%2Fanitachow-groupD-weightlifttoss.mp4" height="361" src="http://static.photobucket.com/player.swf" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="600" wmode="transparent"></embed> <p>Walk-and-run: Two contrasting character designs with a run and walk cycle, and interaction. Little Mingming takes 8 drawings for two steps and is set to 1's, running; Grandpoops takes 16 drawings for two steps and set to 2's, so a 32 frame walk cycle. This assignment I worked more with different levels than in first year. <p><embed allowfullscreen="true" allownetworking="all" flashvars="file=http%3A%2F%2Fvidmg.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fv470%2Favodkabottle%2Fschool%2Fanitachow-D-walkrun_zpse4ebfe74.mp4" height="361" src="http://static.photobucket.com/player.swf" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="600" wmode="transparent"></embed> <p>Character Expression: showing thought process of character through their emotions. Animation is all about acting/pantomime so it must read clearly and be recognizable to audience. I chose an idea in second last week and started animating 3 days before deadline, so I am happy for finishing despite simplicity. What helped me get through this quickly was drawing a character I enjoy. <br />
<b>Painting</b><br />
Exterior study... this year seems to focus more on drawing the viewer to focal points, despite how lighting the scene may be contrary to how one would go about it technically/intuitively!<br />
I used gouache again, but more for its watercolour properties like usual.<br />
<a href="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/school/anitachow-groupD-exteriortonals.jpg"><img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/school/anitachow-groupD-exteriortonals.jpg" width="100" /></a><a href="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/school/anitachow-groupD-exteriorcolourstudies.jpg"><img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/school/anitachow-groupD-exteriorcolourstudies.jpg" width="400" /></a><br />
<br />
I liked the feedback the prof gives us on our individual assignments too, it's helpful to see what to be wary of.<br />
<a href="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/school/anitachow-groupD-exteriorcolourkey.jpg"><img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/school/anitachow-groupD-exteriorcolourkey.jpg" width="450" /></a><br />
<br />
We also got to play with masking fluid in-class :)<br />
<a href="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/school/anitachow-groupD-maskingfluid.jpg"><img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/school/anitachow-groupD-maskingfluid.jpg" width="300" /></a><br />
<br />
<b>Layout</b><br />
Every layout class is basically like a prep talk and influence session, it's great.<br />
Chairs and cars!<br />
those who know me better... hahahahaha--<br />
<a href="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/school/anitachow-groupD-layoutchairs-1.png"><img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/school/anitachow-groupD-layoutchairs-1.png" width="300" /></a> <a href="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/school/anitachow-groupD-layoutchairs-2.png"><img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/school/anitachow-groupD-layoutchairs-2.png" width="300" /></a><br />
<a href="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/school/anitachow-groupD-layoutchairs-3.png"><img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/school/anitachow-groupD-layoutchairs-3.png" width="300" /></a><a href="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/school/anitachow-D-chairs4.png"><img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/school/anitachow-D-chairs4.png" width="300" /></a><br />
<a href="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/school/anitachow-D-cars1.jpg"><img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/school/anitachow-D-cars1.jpg" width="300" /></a> <a href="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/school/anitachow-D-cars2.jpg"><img height="176" src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/school/anitachow-D-cars2.jpg" width="200" /></a><br />
<br />
Castle assignments! We were given thumbnails to work from; It was my first time working with markers too, and really fun! My drawing and toning leaves much to be desired but half the process was researching about castles and who doesn't enjoy learning new things?<br />
<a href="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/school/anitachow-D-castle1.jpg"><img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/school/anitachow-D-castle1.jpg" width="400" /></a><br />
<a href="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/school/anitachow-D-castle2.jpg"><img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/school/anitachow-D-castle2.jpg" width="400" /></a><br />
<a href="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/school/anitachow-D-castle3.png"><img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/school/anitachow-D-castle3.png" width="400" /></a><br />
<br />
<br />
<b>Storyboard</b><br />
We were given two poems to make story beats from.<br />
<a href="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/school/Chow_Anita_Character01.jpg"><img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/school/Chow_Anita_Character01.jpg" width="400" /></a><br />
<a href="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/school/Chow_Anita_Hector01.jpg"><img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/school/Chow_Anita_Hector01.jpg" width="400" /></a><br />
oops this lizard one should be 'After the Bath' ...<br />
<a href="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/school/Chow_Anita_Character02.jpg"><img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/school/Chow_Anita_Character02.jpg" width="400" /></a><br />
<a href="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/school/Chow_Anita_Bath011.jpg"><img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/school/Chow_Anita_Bath011.jpg" width="200" /></a><a href="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/school/Chow_Anita_Bath02.jpg"><img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/school/Chow_Anita_Bath02.jpg" width="200" /></a><br />
<br />
We then expanded on the better of the two into a 16+ panel storyboard!<br />
It was an interesting process since the boards were then pitched by another classmate to determine how readable it was, since if anyone has trouble getting through boards, how would that appear on screen...?<br />
<a href="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/school/Chow_Anita_boards01.jpg"><img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/school/Chow_Anita_boards01.jpg" width="400" /></a><br />

<br />
The rest of the first pre-reading week work I'll be posting sometime later!avodkabottlehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11098301272034923593noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5269538413465314730.post-67558459000248083762012-04-20T14:48:00.003-04:002012-04-20T14:48:24.379-04:00Last day of school<b>Animation, Digital Tools</b><br />
Forgot to post my head turn. Put it off too much lol, relatively boring assignment. <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d4uAHtW6yqo" target="_blank">Sir Pelinore</a> from The Sword in the Stone<br />
<embed allowfullscreen="true" allowscriptaccess="always" height="241" src="http://static.photobucket.com/player.swf?file=http://vidmg.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/school/anitachowgroupB-headturnfinal.mp4" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="400" wmode="transparent"></embed><br />
<br />
Final assignment, flour sack! Mine is kind of goopy and hyper; but I was surprised it turned out better than I expected it to, considering I animated most of it ( 120 out of 160 frames) straight ahead and without pencil-testing. How lazy can I get? lol. It took around the usual 10 hours, but with one hour devoted just to shooting and the exposure sheet. Detest those things fsdfgh<br />
<embed allowfullscreen="true" allowscriptaccess="always" height="241" src="http://static.photobucket.com/player.swf?file=http://vidmg.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/school/anitachowgroupB-floursack.mp4" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="400" wmode="transparent"></embed><br />
<br />
Digitools, cut-out character jump. Making and setting up the character in toonboom was a pain, but the actual animating was kinda fun. Dorky as it is;<br />
<embed allowfullscreen="true" allownetworking="all" flashvars="file=http%3A%2F%2Fvidmg.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fv470%2Favodkabottle%2Fschool%2FanitachowgroupB-cutout.mp4" height="241" src="http://static.photobucket.com/player.swf" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="400" wmode="transparent"></embed><br />
<br />
<b>Character Design</b><br />
Used another character (anthropomorphised) of mine for this assignment... /hit<br />
prof said to have at least one eye showing.<br />
<a href="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/school/chardesign-owensheeps.png"><img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/school/chardesign-owensheeps.png" width="400" /></a><br />
<br />
<br />
<b>Layout</b><br />
Did even worse on portfolio this time (re: I had nothing) but I had a few doodly scenes I did to get some practice with the whole graticule and field guide stuff. Ahahahaaa welp<br />
<a href="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/school/anitachowgroupB-mirrorgranny.jpg"><img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/school/anitachowgroupB-mirrorgranny.jpg" width="400" /></a><br />
<img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/school/anitachowgroupB-simplewaterfall.jpg" width="400" /><br />
<a href="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/school/anitachowgroupB-vertpan.jpg"><img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/school/anitachowgroupB-vertpan.jpg" width="100" /></a><br />
<br />
What is effort<br />
Too lazy to put up life drawing assignments and stuff so I guess that's it for this term!avodkabottlehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11098301272034923593noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5269538413465314730.post-91466314552894793542012-04-03T13:58:00.003-04:002012-04-03T13:58:41.031-04:003 more weeks!!All of these assignments are so last-minute, it's embarrassing LOL<br />
Just gonna toss up a few...<br />
<br />
<b>Digital Tools</b><br />
Multiplane walk cycle. I handed it in a whole week late!! But the professor still marked it. I'm grateful.<br />
<embed allowfullscreen="true" allownetworking="all" flashvars="file=http%3A%2F%2Fvidmg.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fv470%2Favodkabottle%2Fschool%2FanitachowgroupB-multiplanewalk.mp4" height="241" src="http://static.photobucket.com/player.swf" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="400" wmode="transparent"></embed><br />
<br />
<b>Animation</b><br />
Chose a fox. Had trouble making it trot, so it just walks slowly.<br />
Adjusted the legs multiple times... I thought it was interesting what little differences do.<br />
<embed allowfullscreen="true" allowscriptaccess="always" height="241" src="http://static.photobucket.com/player.swf?file=http://vidmg.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/school/foxtrot3_2.mp4" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="400" wmode="transparent"></embed><br />
<br />
Foxes keep their backs relatively straight and don't wag their tails much (though I made everything too straight). I goofed on a lot but ran out of time to fix before deadline lol 8)<br />
<embed allowfullscreen="true" allowscriptaccess="always" height="241" src="http://static.photobucket.com/player.swf?file=http://vidmg.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/school/anitachowgroupB-animalwalk.mp4" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="400" wmode="transparent"></embed><br />
<br />
<b>Character Design</b><br />
bad lines, wasn't thinking in the animation mindset oops<br />
<a href="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/school/character-timeline2012.png"><img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/school/character-timeline2012.png" width="400" /></a><br />
<br />
<b>Painting</b><br />
how do paint...<br />
Ficto-planet<br />

<br />
Measured and cut the wrong paper size. It killed my thumbnails, but I didn't want to bother again.<br />
<a href="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/school/anitachowgroupB-ficto-night.jpg"><img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/school/anitachowgroupB-ficto-night.jpg" width="400" /></a><br />

I was trying to do a fireplace scene.<br />

casually... hides face in shame.................h-hahahahaha<br />
I never learn my lesson oh my goodness but anyway, just shows that I desperately need to practice my perspectives and buildings and stuff... And time management. Yeah 8)<br />

<br />
<b>Animation</b><br />
Pink panther, 12 frame. Did the 8 inbetweens.<br />
<embed allowfullscreen="true" allowscriptaccess="always" height="241" src="http://static.photobucket.com/player.swf?file=http://vidmg.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/school/anitachowgroupB-pinkpantherrough.mp4" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="400" wmode="transparent"></embed><br />
<br />
Original character walk, 16 (or 18?) frame cycle. I made a cricket waiter!<br />
<img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/school/asdajt.gif" width="400" /><br />
<img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/school/sefseg.gif" width="400" /><br />
<br />
Had to change his arms to all be forward since I was running out of time. His face is too flat and doesn't rotate with the rest of the body, and the tailcoat & antennae both don't move in beat with his steps; it was too confusing for me to try and imagine so I just animated them separately. A lot of mistakes as usual, but since I am no perfectionist, I still somewhat enjoyed <strike>maso'ing over</strike> this assignment.<br />
<embed allowfullscreen="true" allowscriptaccess="always" height="241" src="http://static.photobucket.com/player.swf?file=http://vidmg.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/school/walkfinal1.mp4" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="400" wmode="transparent"></embed><br />
I still need help with s&c curve in a long path; I think I'm okay with understanding it from a fixed point (bookflip) but I really struggle with it otherwise.<br />
<br />
<b>Digital Tools</b><br />
Learning flash. Drew <a href="http://viceversa.deviantart.com/">Twitch</a> again ... just because.<br />
<embed allowfullscreen="true" allowscriptaccess="always" height="241" src="http://static.photobucket.com/player.swf?file=http://vidmg.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/school/potatoSequence01.mp4" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="400" wmode="transparent"></embed><br />
<br />
<br />
<b>Character Design</b><br />
Character in sequence. Probably should've had more anticipation for a better effect?<br />
<a href="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/school/chardesignsequence.gif"><img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/school/chardesignsequence.gif" width="400" /></a><br />
<br />
Also baby/elderly caricatures of a classmate, in practice for next assignment!<br />
I really enjoy Enzo's in-class exercises.<br />
<img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/school/cdsu.jpg" width="400" /><br />
<br />
<b>Layout </b><br />
<img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/school/showdown.jpg" width="200" /><br />
<img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/school/layoutclass.jpg" width="400" /><br />
This is pretty much all I ever get done in my favourite class.......<br />
<br />
Scale vs. Proportion. Couldn't manage my desired angle in the end, so I settled for something flatter.<br />
<img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/school/schooldragon.jpg" width="200" /> <a href="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/school/layout-scaleproportion.jpg"><img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/school/layout-scaleproportion.jpg" width="260" /></a><br />
<br />
I also had a grand time confusing myself about the positioning of the field guides on the graticule. I'll have to figure that out soon.<br />
<a href="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/school/layout-scaleproportion2.jpg"><img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/school/layout-scaleproportion2.jpg" width="300" /></a><br />
<br />
<b>Painting </b><br />
Still lifes, practicing metal, transparency and fabric<br />
<a href="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/school/anitachowgroupB-tonalstilllife.jpg"><img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/school/anitachowgroupB-tonalstilllife.jpg" width="400" /></a><br />
You see that glass? Those impossibly warped ellipses and goopy fabric rolls?<br />
That's me painting through the night<br />
<a href="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/school/anitachowgroupB-finalstilllife.jpg"><img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/school/anitachowgroupB-finalstilllife.jpg" width="400" /></a><br />

Putting the original and my copy on the same screen makes me realize just how dull and washed out my colours are. Not to mention the ellipses again. Arrghh! ELLIPSES!!<br />
<br />
We usually get 2-3 whole weeks or so to work on each homework assignment, but it always seems to disappear so quickly lol. Have to work on that time management.avodkabottlehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11098301272034923593noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5269538413465314730.post-83685552657862760302011-12-28T17:00:00.000-05:002011-12-28T17:14:22.032-05:00Final projectsFinally got around to posting the semester's last assignments. Not that I did a particularly stunning job on any of them, but it's always nice to keep a record.<br />
<br />
<b>Digital Tools</b><br />
Made a second multiplane pan.<br />
<a href="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/school/Multiplane2all.png"><img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/school/Multiplane2all.png" width="400" /></a><br />

<embed allowfullscreen="true" allownetworking="all" flashvars="file=http%3A%2F%2Fvidmg.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fv470%2Favodkabottle%2Fschool%2FanitachowgroupBmultiplane2-2.mp4" height="241" src="http://static.photobucket.com/player.swf" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="400" wmode="transparent"></embed><br />
We also made a demo reel, but I exported it incorrectly so the sound doesn't play. Oh well!<br />
<br />
<b>Animation</b><br />
Ball & Tail, making use of what we've previously learned (Squash, stretch, S&C, anticipation, overlap action, etc.). My ball&tail moves way too fast though, because I didn't bother with slowing down some frames... ended up being 90 something pages, but it was a fun exercise because of the character acting.<br />
<embed allowfullscreen="true" allowscriptaccess="always" height="241" src="http://static.photobucket.com/player.swf?file=http://vidmg.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/school/anitachowgroupB-balltail2.mp4" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="400" wmode="transparent"></embed><br />
<br />
<b>Character Design</b><br />
Artist profile; I did my presentation on <a href="http://endling.deviantart.com/">Endling</a><br />
Wasn't able to mimic his style very well at all; And I didn't realize how much it had changed over the years since what I remembered from him in 2007!<br />
<a href="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/school/anitachow-chardesign-profilendling.jpg"><img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/school/anitachow-chardesign-profilendling.jpg" width="400" /></a><br />
<br />
<b>Painting</b><br />
Colour mood landscapes. But I really need to learn how to use gouache opaquely.<br />
<a href="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/school/anitachowgroupB-tonalcoloursketches.jpg"><img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/school/anitachowgroupB-tonalcoloursketches.jpg" width="400" /></a><br />
<br />
<a href="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/school/anitachowgroupB-moodanalogous.jpg"><img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/school/anitachowgroupB-moodanalogous.jpg" width="400" /></a><br />
<a href="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/school/anitachowgroupB-moodcomplementary.jpg"><img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/school/anitachowgroupB-moodcomplementary.jpg" width="400" /></a><br />
<br />
<b>Layout</b><br />
Did a vertical pan this time. Portfolio was terrible because I didn't have enough time to redo my in-class drawings<br />
<a href="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/school/anitachow-verticalpan.jpg"><img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/school/anitachow-verticalpan.jpg" width="60" /></a> <a href="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/school/anitachowgroupB-houseonslope.jpg"><img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/school/anitachowgroupB-houseonslope.jpg" width="400" /></a><br />
<br />
<b>Storyboard</b><br />
Final project was to plan out before, and then draw our storyboard in class! Basic outline- char has a box, finds a larger box & sets aside original for it, struggles and eventually returns to the original box.<br />
I had a lot of issues with crossing the stage line (camera). In comics it's permitted because viewers can set their own pace to study the panels, but in storyboarding for film, the viewer has to be led along since they can't choose how long to look at everything.<br />
<a href="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/school/characterpose-storyboard.jpg"><img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/school/characterpose-storyboard.jpg" width="400" /></a><br />
<a href="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/school/2011finalstoryboard.jpg"><img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/school/2011finalstoryboard.jpg" width="400" /></a><br />
<br />
I pretty much used Ming & Grandpoops in all of my classes this semester.<br />
But anyway, continue studying bones for the break !avodkabottlehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11098301272034923593noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5269538413465314730.post-18243841177724300922011-12-09T22:43:00.000-05:002011-12-09T22:45:09.161-05:00Life Drawing classDumping all of this class' assignments in one post<br />
Thurman is a good teacher. And I must say I was expecting to do worse in this class, but I'm getting consistent B's (in Sheridan's marking scheme) even though I personally think I haven't improved as much as the others; I haven't attended any extra life sessions either...<br />
<br />
I really need to work on my gesture and volume, and a lot of other things. It always did feel like a test every session; so frustrating for me!<br />
<br />
<b>Life Drawing</b><br />
12 minute 4-figure exercise (sep)<br />
<a href="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/school/lifedraw4fig-2011.jpg"><img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/school/lifedraw4fig-2011.jpg" width="300" /></a><br />

<br />
<b>Royal Winter Fair animal drawings (Nov. 10)</b><br />
Probably by far my favourite part part of this class. I love drawing animals!<br />
It was tougher than I expected, but I find it easier to see them in gesture/structure than humans.<br />
<a href="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/school/winterfair2011.jpg"><img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/school/winterfair2011.jpg" width="400" /></a><br />
<br />
<b>Bone drawings </b><br />
(Shamefully I powered through these in 9-12 hours... <br />
and thus was more than frazzled when it came time to research and explain the parts. /terrible student)<br />

I thought I'd put up a few of the assignments I've done since we've gotten our marks back recently. I'm actually doing somewhat better than I expected; that's probably due more to teachers' kindness than personal ability... haha!<br />
( some gifs don't seem to be working, but they show up in other browsers. Oh well. )<br />
<br />
My title page in Digital Tools class. effort<br />

<img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/school/dumbopotato2.gif" width="300" /><br />
<br />
<b>Animation</b><br />
Bouncing ball first attempt. It kind of floats rather than bounce. The teacher said to maintain the round shape as much as possible, and I overdid it; She just didn't want our balls to become too egg-like.<br />
<a href="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/school/anita-rbdraft1.gif"><img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/school/anita-rbdraft1.gif" /></a><br />
<br />
Revised bouncing ball. I added more squash and stretch on the impacts (17 frames)<br />
<a href="http://pics.livejournal.com/avodkabottle/pic/001ckdw0"><img width="300" src="http://pics.livejournal.com/avodkabottle/pic/001ckdw0" /></a><br />
<br />
Bowling ball. I think this was actually my favourite to work on, despite the pains of trying to draw a consistent round shape, since I didn't use a stencil. (61 frames )<br />
<a href="http://pics.livejournal.com/avodkabottle/pic/001ce59d"><img src="http://pics.livejournal.com/avodkabottle/pic/001cftga" /></a><br />
<br />
The Balloon kicked my ass because I avoided it until two days before the deadline; I pulled an all nighter with a friend to work on them. It came to a point where I just didn't care to revise anymore and handed it in as is, because I did NOT want nor had the time to spend half hours to line-test 120-130 pages again and again for an addition of a few fixed or missing frames. So dumb of me, orz (126 frames)<br />
<a href="http://pics.livejournal.com/avodkabottle/pic/001ccqzg"><img width="300" src="http://pics.livejournal.com/avodkabottle/pic/001ccqzg" /></a><br />
I got to keep <a href="http://twitpic.com/6ymudk/full">some balloons</a>, though :D<br />
<br />
Pendulum - I wanted to add a potato hanging onto it as an extra, but I was a bit delirious from toiling on the balloon... (16 frames)<br />
<a href="http://pics.livejournal.com/avodkabottle/pic/001cg000"><img src="http://pics.livejournal.com/avodkabottle/pic/001chye2" /></a><br />
<br />
S+C curve line. This was an in-class assignment and the teacher had to draw guidelines for me for the upwards motion because I was having so much difficulty grasping the concept.<br />
<img width="300" src="http://pics.livejournal.com/avodkabottle/pic/001cq1yh" /><br />
<br />
<b>Character design</b><br />
Character rotation. I used younger Ming for this assignment!<br />
<img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/school/characterrotation-ming.gif" width="300" /><img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/school/charrotate-ming.gif" width="200" /><br />

<br />
<b>Layout</b><br />
I'm actually using Grandpoops and Mingming in another class as well.<br />
<a href="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/school/grandpoops1.jpg"><img width="400" src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/school/grandpoops1.jpg"></a><br />

<br />
Unfortunately, I didn't get around to working on the marked homework until after I finished my balloon. So I spent 15 minutes to scribble this (with improper perspective;; ) and then I passed out lol<br />
<a href="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/school/layouthw1small.jpg"><img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/school/layouthw1small.jpg" width="400" /></a><br />
<br />
<b>Painting</b><br />
high noon, sunset, moonlight spheres, and a painted egg from life<br />

<br />
<b>Life Drawing</b><br />
We handed in our first portfolios last week. I've hardly improved since school began as I haven't been going to extra life drawing sessions, so in total I've only figure drawn 7 times. I really need to get my game on and start attending!<br />
Anyway, we had a Hands & Feet observation assignment as well. As usual, I put this off in favour of other homework because I didn't think it would take that long, but in the end I had to pull another all nighter with another friend to finish. Each of these took me roughly 15-30 minutes to complete.<br />
<a href="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/school/Anitahandsfeet.jpg"><img width="450" src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/school/Anitahandsfeet.jpg"></a><br />
<br />
We're also doing group bone studies, but I have yet to draw any of the bones (pelvis, vertebrae, scapula or skull) properly. The only one I actually sketched so far is the pelvis, from back in September. Hopefully this week I will be receiving the skull to work on.<br />
<a href="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/school/seppelvis.jpg"><img width="400" src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/school/seppelvis.jpg"></a><br />
I used mechanical pencil like how I usually doodle; Now I find it better to draw observations with col-erase/ coloured pencils, like with animating. It's pretty interesting and yet rather unnerving how some drawing habits must change, but it's for the better!<br />
<br />
Anyway, that was a rambling entry. I haven't been working as hard as I should be... I have to get it together for the coming weeks!<br />

Using gouache for the first time -<br />
Needless to say I was driven a little mad by this medium, because apparently I kept using too much water or pulling up the paint beneath when I didn't mean to. Results, crazy frustrated strokes. But it's pretty versatile and I hope to get better at using it. <br />

Anyway, I was waitlisted (#11) for Sheridan's Animation course, and actually managed to get in during late June; Can't say I was more excited than I was dreading it, but I'm here now and am surrounded by amazing artwork and talented people. I guess I'm taking my acceptance for granted, but... ahh, just work hard!<br />
<br />
Mindless sketchbook stuff I did while on the road trip and also in classes<br />
<a href="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/Photos/aug2011-sketchbookjunk.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/Photos/aug2011-sketchbookjunk.jpg" width="400" /></a><br />
<br />
And well, I said I didn't want to show my first life drawings... but I think keeping a record and notes for myself comes first before shame<br />
<a href="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/Photos/sheridan2011-firstlifedraw.jpg"><img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/avodkabottle/Photos/sheridan2011-firstlifedraw.jpg" width="400"></a><br />
<br />
Mr. Thurman said that I should watch my proportions and probably take a lower seat/easel next time, because I am short and it's harder for me to draw standing at the back (I think?). And that I shouldn't focus on the anatomy bits just yet, more on the full figure and pose itself. I find it difficult to determine what parts count and what don't, though. <br />
<br />
He also showed us that holding the conte 'underhand' is better, since it stresses the arm less and it offers more movement. I keep unconsciously going back to 'overhand', but I hope I'll be able to control it with time. <br />
